Big Bad Barbeque & Brewery

Big Bad Barbeque was a design created for my own principles of if I was to create a restaurant. Given Texas Style Barbeque and Texas’ roots in hard manual labor, the country legend of “Big Bad John" by Jimmy Dean was used as a namesake for the restaurant. In the song, Big John holds up a timber in a collapsing mine, allowing other miners to escape, eventually meeting his demise. Only now, Big John carries the weight of Bar-B-Q. Familiarity was developed once again by using hand drawn elements in the logo as well as in the sauce icons to make the user feel at home.

Upon realization that beer and Texas Barbeque go hand in hand, it was decided to create an accompanying beer brand that also fit within the brand values of Big Bad Bar-B-Q, thus Big Bad Brewery’s Texas Red was born. Texas Red draws similar inspiration from classic country music, using Marty Robbin’s “Big Iron” as reference to create a dangerously powerful Ale.
